One of my goals for this year is to work on my personal style so that my inner self matches the way I present myself to the outer world. I've always loved fashion and style, and I've always admired people who have the skill of pulling together a polished outfit that showcases their unique personality.

As my first step toward this goal, I decided to try a StitchFix box. StitchFix is a subscription box service that makes the type of personal styling that celebrities enjoy accessible to the average person. First, there's a style profile that subscribers fill out to give the stylists an idea of a subscriber's personal style, body type, and other preferences. Then, a subscriber schedules a box of expertly selected clothes to be mailed to them. The subscriber can try everything on, and then she decides what she wants to buy and purchases those things through the Checkout page. Any clothing that is not purchased can be mailed back in the included postage paid packaging. Along with your clothes, you also receive a set of styling cards that demonstrate ideas about how to blend each piece with your wardrobe. Here's what they sent me in my first box:

Lavender Skinny Jeans by Just Black ($78)

They read my mind with these. I've wanted some lavender skinny jeans for the longest, but these were a little too small and high water for me. These are definitely still on my shopping list for spring though.

 

Oda Sweater Dress by Muse ($108)

This dress would be a great staple dress for work if paired with a blazer or pull over sweater, but it could easily work as a date dress as well. The cottony, stretchy fabric that it is made out of makes it very comfortable and perfect for long days at work. It's a little pricey, but I'd splurge on this if I could.

 

Yuli Lace Cap Sleeve Blouse by Pixley ($68)

Lace is one of my favorite things, and black lace is very feminine, yet very edgy at the same time. This top would be great with a jewel tone or bright colored skirt and statement heels.

 

Xander Short Sleeved Woven Back Sweatshirt by Market & Spruce ($54)

I loved the drape of the back of this sweatshirt and how the glamour of the back is combined with the casual ruggedness of the sweatshirt front. I'd wear this with black skinny jeans and d'Orsay kitten heels, exactly how the style card suggested.

 

Rebekah Stretch Crepe Blazer by Kensie ($88)

I loved how this fit and the color is not one I have a lot of in my wardrobe, but it's neutral enough to blend in well with my other pieces. The casual, rolled up sleeves are my favorite detail of this blazer along with the dots from the lining.

 

Even though I loved everything in my box, I didn't buy anything since the pieces were more expensive than I expected. I edited my style profile for price, so hopefully I'll buy some items from my next box. Right now I don't have a subscription, but I'll probably get a quarterly box. I can tell that a lot of thought went into the selection of these pieces. They seemed to consider everything from my profession (librarian) to my favorite color (purple!) I'm very satisfied with my first experience with StitchFix!
